Dog Poop Affecting Our Drinking Water?
There is a commercial from TappWater, a Tallahassee, FL water management company that seems to think so.
Why?! Its just poop, everything poops. No study can tell me that dog poop is any worse than other poop, and apparently, there is a study that does just that. Now, I know you should clean up after your dog if you live the the city for common decency and in consideration of others, but to pick it up just so it won't 'run-off' into a stream is ridiculous. What are we supposed to do about the animals that actually poop IN the water, and not just around it? Put diapers on them? If we do clean up after the dogs, where do we put it? In the trash? The trash goes to a landfill where it will still end up in the drinking water.
One suggestion on what to do with your dogs waste, from the website, is to "bury it in the yard" What? How is that any different than when it just sits on top of the ground?
I know there are hardcore nature conservationists out there that will completely disagree with me, especially since there is a "study" involved, and sure, it is nice to protect our planet, but I am much more worried about other things than what types of bacteria my dogs may or may not add to the drinking water.
Besides, isn't water filtered anyway? Even though there isn't a dog waste treatment method, you don't normally just go fill up a bucket with water from the pond out back for drinking out of (If you do, then that is just your own fault, and dog poop isn't the only problem you have to worry about).
One reason this particular commercial bothers me is because it is one of the very few I've ever seen from this company. I know of only one other, and it talks about pesticides and fertilizers getting into the water. A less annoying one, since everyone knows that is a problem.
Maybe its just me. I find this commercial slightly aggravating, mostly because it is just another, although 'friendlier' attack on dogs. Before you know it, dogs will be outlawed in this country for such stupid reasons.
