I recently bought a bottle of the Pet Stain amp; Odour Remover by Woolite® from K-Mart for $3.99. It is a product I use occasionally whenever my cats have an accident or they decide to vomit on the carpet. The bottle claims that it "eliminates tough stains, discourages pets from resoiling same area". It also ensures that the product will deodorise the area where the pet has been.
Before using the Pet Stain amp; Odour Remover, it is a good idea to test it on a hidden area of carpet, just to make sure that the colours do not run. Start off by removing the urine, feces or vomit and then blot the area with a clean cloth or sponge that will not damage the affected area. Then spray the affected area and let it sit for 5 minutes in order to work on the stain and lift it. The instructions state that there is no need to saturate the area. A small amount will be sufficient to penetrate into the carpet. After this time, lightly blot the area with a damp cloth or sponge. You might need to repeat this process more than once, depending on how tough the stain is and how long it has been on the carpet. Once the area has been cleaned, you must stay off it until it is dry. Once the area has completely dried, vacuum the affected area. The instructions specifically state not to mix the Pet Stain amp; Odour Remover with any other household product or with bleach.
I have found that in order to achieve good results with this product, it is best to use it soon after the carpet has been soiled. The carpet will still be moist and easier to clean if the pet stains have not dried into the carpet.
