WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs (TLC) 2020 Results

On December 19th, 2020, WWE presented its annual TLC (Tables, Ladders and Chairs) PPV event. The night would feature matches contested in tables matches, ladder matches, chair matches, and TLC matches.

Match 1: Dolph Ziggler v. Jack Swagger v. Kofi Kingston (Ladder match for the Intercontinental Title)

The three competitors all jumped on each other, exchanging punches and kicks, geared at no one specific person, but between all men. Ziggler was thrown to the outside, as Swagger and Kofi battled in the ring. When those two spilled to the outside, Ziggler grabbed a ladder and set it up in the ring, quickly scaling it to grab the belts. Kofi and Swagger made his way back into the ring and tipped the ladder over, knocking Ziggler to the outside. Kofi drop kicked Swagger and then tipped the ladder into swagger bouncing it off his wrists. In the meantime, Ziggler brought in another ladder, hit Kofi with it and set the ladder up in the corner. While he was turned away, Kofi charged Ziggler, who side stepped Kofi's attack, resulting him to land on top of the ladder positioned in the corner. Swagger, who was getting his wrist taped up by a trainer on the outside, stormed back in the ring and attacked Ziggler, and slingshot him into the ladder. Swagger tried to set up the ladder, but Kofi jumped from the ropes, swinging through the center of the ladder to hit Swagger with a pair of knees. Kofi took another ladder and slammed it on top of Swagger, only to have Ziggler slam him into that same ladder. As all men ended up on the outside, Vicki Guerrero tried to climb the ladder for the belt, but Kofi made it into the ring and lifted the opposite side of the ladder tipping Vicki to nearly fall off. Ziggler slid in the ring and begged Kofi to stop. In the meantime, Swagger got in the ring with another ladder and hit Kofi in the side. Vicki quickly got down off the main ladder, only to come face to face with Swagger. Vicki screamed and ran out of the ring as Swagger threw the ladder in Ziggler's face. Swagger began climbing the original ladder, but Kofi pulled him down and threw him to the outside, throwing the ladder after him. As Kofi was going for the ladder, Swagger hooked his ankle, and locked in an ankle lock to try to keep him from getting to it. When Kofi fought off, Ziggler was already scaling the ladder, and Kofi followed him up, with Swagger in pursuit. Ziggler was close to the title but was prevented from getting to it by Kingston. Kofi also kicked Swagger off the ladder and met Ziggler on top where the two exchanged blows and both attempted to reach the belt. When Kofi threw a punch Ziggler ducked and turned Kofi around hooking in the sleeper at the top of the ladder. Kofi escaped as the two battled for the belt again. Kofi was able to knock Ziggler off, only to have Swagger quickly take his place. Both men hooked the belt and pulled it down at the same time, but the belt fell down, and Ziggler quickly slithered across the ring to grab the belt, and was declared the winner.

Match 2: Lay Cool v. Natalya amp; Beth Phoenix (tables match)

Natalya and Beth quickly attacked Lay Cool, and quickly pulled a table into the ring and set it up in the corner. Beth lifted both Layla and Michelle on her shoulders, and attempted to put them both through the table, but Lay Cool escaped to the outside. While Beth focused on Michelle, Layla drop kicked her from inside the ring and was able to gain control of the match, beating on and throwing both of their opponents to the outside. Lay Cool set up another table in the center of the ring and assaulted Natalya while Beth lay hurt on the outside after an awkward landing. Michelle sat up on the top turnbuckles as Layla helped position Natalya upside down in Michelle's grasp and then went to move the table closer to her. Beth, however, yanked Layla to the outside, and then got in the ring, pulling Natalya down. Beth then punched Michelle and lifted her over her head in an attempt to slam her through the table, but Michelle slipped out and nailed Beth in the back. She was then almost immediately taken down by Natalya's clothesline. Layla got in the ring and continued assaulting Beth. She then drop kicked Natalya to the outside. Layla pulled the table into position and attempted to suplex Beth through it. Being bigger and stronger, Beth blocked this attempt, and then with Natalya's help, hoisted Layla high in the air. Michelle rushed the ring and threw the table out of the way to prevent Layla from going through it, and then attacked Natalya and Beth with kicks. She then attempted to take Natalya towards the table, but was tripped up and taken down by Natalya who set her up to be slingshot into the table in the corner. However, Layla hit Natalya to prevent her from performing the move, but Natalya quickly dropped her onto Michelle and now had both members of Lay Cool down on the mat. She then proceeded to lock in the sharpshooter on both Layla and Michelle at the same time, much to the delight of the crowd. In the meantime, Beth set the table which was previously in the corner up in the center of the ring. As Natalya let go of the hold, her and Beth formulated a plan for a win, but as they went to grab Lay Cool, Michelle pulled Beth to the outside, and Layla kicked Natalya in the head. Lay Cool then propped Natalya up on the top rope, and positioned the table so that they could put her through it. After fighting off Beth's attempt to stop them, they once again tried to suplex Natalya off the top rope, but she overpowered them, and shoved them back onto the table. The table gave a little but did not break. Natalya then followed with a body splash from the top rope onto Lay Cool to break the table and win the match.

Winners: Natalya amp; Beth Phoenix

Match 3: NEXUS (Heath Slater amp; Justin Gabriel) v. Santino Marela amp; Vladimir Kozlov

Santino opened the match, taking his offense to both Gabriel and Slater. He tagged in Kozlov hit Slater with several headbutts to the chest and threw him to the outside. Kozlov went out and threw Slater into the ring, but on his way back in he was victim of interference from Husky Harris , allowing Slater to tag in Gabriel who came in and dominated Kozlov. Nexus exchanged tags, taking turns pounding Kozlov for several minutes. He was able to sneak away at one point and tag Santino who was about to hit Gabriel with the Cobra, but Michael McGullitcuty interfered and hit Santino in the knee. The ref saw this and disqualified NEXUS. The NEXUS members at ringside stormed the ring and attacked the tag team champions. Wade Barrett came down to the ring with a chair and used it on both Santino and Kozlov, intending to send a message to Cena about the upcoming chairs match for later in the night.

Match 4: Sheamus v. John Morrison (Winner becomes #1 contender to the WWE Championship)

Sheamus took the early Morrison down with a headlock, but Morrison squirmed out of it. When the two locked up again, they ended up forcing each other to the outside. On the outside, Sheamus threw Morrison against the barriers, and pulled a ladder out setting it up with one end on the ring apron, and the other on the announcers' table. He then launched Morrison into it, but Morrison ducked sliding underneath the ladder, and baited Sheamus to follow him. When Sheamus did, Morrison assaulted him with a series of kicks. Sheamus reversed momentum quickly but Morrison was able to stun him by running him back first into the barriers. Morrison took the opportunity to go after a ladder, but Sheamus quickly caught up to him with a behind the back attack. Sheamus grabbed a ladder and attempted to put it in the ring, but this time he was surprised by Morrison from behind. Morrison then put the ladder in the ring, and began to climb it. Sheamus came in and pushed him off the ladder, causing both men on opposite sides of the ladder to power struggle with the ladder in the middle, until Morrison smartly yanked Sheamus's shoulder into the ladder. He then climbed to the top rope and catapulted himself over the ladder with a spinning flying body attack to take Sheamus down. Morrison kicked Sheamus to the outside and went up the ladder in the center of the ring again. Sheamus made it back in time and hit Morrison, who fell having his leg caught in between ladder rungs. Sheamus then flipped the ladder from the other end, causing Morrison to land on his face with the ladder landing on top of him. Sheamus threw the ladder into Morrison's leg, and then set the ladder, getting ready to climb it. Morrison was able to stop him by hanging on to his ankle. Sheamus then worked on Morrison's leg some more, slamming his knee into the ladder, and punishing him with a series of shots to the head. Sheamus hooked Morrison's lower leg in the ladder runs and slammed it repeatedly into the ring. Once he believed Morrison to be disabled, Sheamus went to line up the ladder, but Morrison kept interfering. Sheamus got another ladder from the outside and pulled it in the ring, but when he got in Morrison met him with a power struggle to get the ladder out of his grasp. The stronger Sheamus shoved Morrison down with the ladder on top of him, and then slammed Morrison into the ladder after lining it up across the bottom ropes. As Sheamus went to climb the ladder, Morrison got up and threw the ladder he was just slammed on into Sheamus's back, knocking him down. Sheamus angrily backed Morrison into a corner and with Morrison's hurt leg over Sheamus's shoulder, slammed Morrison face first into the mat. He then went at Morrison trying to ram him with the ladder, but Morrison tripped him up as Sheamus fell face first into the ladder. Morrison was able to catch the rising Sheamus with a shot to the head, and went to the outside to retrieve another ladder. He brought it into the ring and rammed into Sheamus who was already holding a ladder of his own. Morrison planted the ladder between the ropes and face planted Sheamus on it, following that up with a drop on the other ladder with Sheamus's crotch. Morrison then lifted the ladder over his head and threw it onto Sheamus on the outside. Morrison then used the other ladder to climb toward the contract hanging over the ring. Sheamus got in the ring and pushed Morrison off the ladder and went to climb it himself. He was close to the contract but could not reach it. In the meantime, Morrison climbed the other side of the ladder and knocked Sheamus off, but Sheamus quickly made his way around the ladder, and tried to power bomb Morrison to the outside. However Morrison catapulted Sheamus over the top and skidded back in the ring, beginning to hop one legged up the ladder. Sheamus made it back into the ring just in time, as Morrison had his hand on the contract and shoved the ladder, causing Morrison to bounce viciously off the ropes. Sheamus folded the ladder and positioned it to stick out of the corner. As Morrison fought off, Sheamus catapulted him over the ropes almost causing him to land on the ladder positioned on the apron and announcer's table. Morrison quickly ascended the apron and as Sheamus climbed the ladder hooked him up, while standing on the outside of the ropes to suplex him over the ropes into the ladder. Sheamus fought off and both men began scaling the same side of the ladder. In an insane moment, Morrison then shoved Sheamus off to the outside of the ring, sending him crashing through the ladder lined up on the outside. Morrison hit his knee on the ladder too, but was able to get back into the ring and slowly climbed the ladder already set up in the ring. Shockingly, Sheamus crawled into the ring and attempted to tip the ladder over, but Morrison stopped the tip by putting his foot on the top rope, and pushed back, getting the momentum to allow him to swing back and kick Sheamus in the face, knocking him down. Morrison was then able to climb the rest of the way and retrieve the contract.

In the back, Husky Harris and Wade Barrett walked into the Nexus locker room to find the rest of the Nexus members beaten and out.

Match 5: Randy Orton v. The Miz (Tables match for the WWE championship)

Orton opened the match with a brutal assault on the Miz, knocking him around all over the ring. Even when the Miz tried to fight back, Orton was able to subdue him. This went on for several minutes, including a period where Orton threw Miz to the outside and started reaching for a table, but was distracted by Alex Riley. The Miz thought he could take advantage, but Orton was aware of what was going on and managed to hit the Miz with a suplex on the outside, and threw him in the ring. Orton went for a table again, putting the table in the ring. As the table was about to be slid in the Mix drop kicked the table into Orton's face. Miz set up the table on the outside and he attempted to suplex Orton through it, but Orton fought him off and lifted Miz on his shoulders, stepped on the ring steps, aiming to power slam Miz through the table. But the Miz slid backwards and yanked Orton's legs from under him, causing Orton to land face first on the steel steps. The Miz then picked up the ring steps and hit Orton with them. The Miz pulled a table out from under the ring and set it up on the outside. He put Orton on top of the table, but the table legs gave on one side sending Orton down. The Miz tried again, placing Orton on the table and quickly heading to the top rope. Orton rolled off the table and the Miz came to get him on the outside, but Orton attacked him. The Miz blocked a shot to the steps to slam Orton face first into them. The Miz then pulled out yet another table and slid it into the ring. In the ring the Miz hit Orton with a sitting clothesline in the corner and set the table up in to corner. He then tried to launch Orton into the table, but Orton reversed and hit the Miz with a spinning Olympic Slam. Orton set the table up in the middle of the ring and placed the Miz on the top ropes and went for a superplex, but Riley got in the ring and moved the table out of the way, then folded it up and pushed it to the outside. Orton continued to go after the Miz, but the Miz fought back with punches. Orton quickly subdued him again with a clothesline and a powerslam. Throwing the Miz to the apron, Orton yanked him back in partially through the ropes and hit him with a DDT. Orton slid to the outside and took out Riley, then grabbed the table and put it in the ring, setting it up in the center. The Miz tried to sneak attack him, only to be hit with a backbreaker. Orton set up for an RKO, but changed his mind and set Miz up for a power bomb through a table, but Riley interfered again, hitting Orton from behind. As Orton turned his attention, Miz struck from behind, trying to hit the Skull Crushing Finale through the table, but Orton shoved him backwards, as the falling Miz took the ref out with him. Orton knocked the Miz to the outside, as Riley came back into the ring. As he entered he was met with an RKO from Orton. Since the Miz was still on the outside, Orton picked up the semi conscious riley and powerbombed him through the table. The Miz snuck in and hit Orton with a Skull Crushing Finale. Thinking quickly, the Miz pulled Riley off of the broken table, and placed Orton on it, then woke up the ref who, seeing Orton in the table rubble, called for the bell, declaring The Miz the winner. As the replay was shown on the big screen, the ref saw it, and ordered the match to be restarted. An angry Miz was assaulted by Orton in the aisle, who abused the Miz by throwing him into the barriers and launching him into the steel ring post. Orton threw the Miz into the ring and went to climb back in, Miz pushed Riley into Orton who toppled backwards threw a table on the outside.

Match 6: Kane v. Edge v. Rey Mysterio v. Alberto Del Rio (TLC match for the World Title)

Kane and Edge started the match on the outside, while Rey and Del Rio fought on the inside. Rey knocked Del Rio to the outside, as Edge and Kane took each other out with a double boot to each other's faces. Rey quickly retrieved a ladder and went to climb it quickly. Del Rio got into the ring just in time, and shoved the ladder over, with Rey at the top of it, landing on top of Kane and Edge. Rey was unfazed, and got another ladder throwing it into the ring. This time he was met by an attack from Del Rio, who set the ladder up in the corner and tried to throw Rey into it. But Rey tripped up Del Rio, sending him face first into the ladder. Rey then went to climb the original ladder, but Del Rio got under him, sitting Rey on his shoulders and tried to throw him into another ladder. Rey quickly countered by climbing up the corner ladder then getting on the top ropes and using the ladder as the medium between him and Del Rio as he landed sitting on Del Rio from the top rope. As Rey was dealing with the ladder, Kane snuck in and was able to slam Rey face first into the corner ladder. Edge snuck in nailing Kane from behind, then folding up the big ladder from the center of the ring and turning to get Kane. Kane was up on his feet already and kicked the ladder into Edge, then took the ladder and threw it onto Rey and Del Rio on the outside. He then turned to choke slam Edge, who was able to reverse with a DDT on the champion. He then knocked Kane and a ladder he was near to the outside. Edge went out to another side of the ring and got another ladder, bringing it into the ring. His attention was drawn away by Kane who was making his way back into the ring, so Edge went to deal with Kane on the outside. Edge set up a table on the outside of the ring, only to be caught by Kane with a punch and thrown into the crowd by the big red monster. Kane gave Del Rio the big boot, pulled a chair out of the crowd, and tried to set up a table, the legs of which he accidentally broke. Instead Kane put the broken side of the table onto the announcers' table and grabbed Del Rio and Rey together to choke slam them down. Edge was able to stop it by coming up and hitting Kane from behind. The three challengers then teamed up to beat down on Kane, until Rey and Edge both hit Del Rio and threw him into the barrier. Kane got up and took out Edge and Rey. Edge was able to fight Kane off, and asked Rey to hold him with table that they then set up on the outside. They placed Kane on the table, and as Rey held Kane down, Edge pulled the ladder over to the side of the ring and body splashed Kane off of it through the table on the outside. Rey quickly ascended the ladder in the ring trying to get to the title, but was once again stopped by Del Rio. Rey fought back almost hitting Del Rio with the 619, but Edge got in the ring and hit both men with a spear. Edge then slowly climbed the ladder to the title belt, but Kane got in the ring and shoved the ladder, causing Edge to land not so gingerly on the top rope. Kane then viciously attacked Rey and Del Rio on the outside of the ring, and followed Edge down the aisle to beat on him some more. He grabbed a chair and assaulted all three of his opponents systematically on the outside. At the entrance however, the three challengers fought back, as Rey climbed one of the hanging table props in the entrance way and body splashed Kane on the floor. Rey then ran to the ring and tried to set the ladder up, but Del Rio chased him down and stopped him again. Rey fought back against him, and Edge who also got to the ring. Rey knocked both men into the ropes and hit Del Rio with a 619 on one side of the ring, then trying to hit Edge with it on the other. But Edge had a chair in his hands what Rey smashed into, falling to the ring apron. Edge set up the ladder and began to climb. Del Rio climbed the other side, with Rey setting up a smaller ladder alongside the big one and climbed that one. Both men hit Del Rio, knocking him off the ladder. Rey took Del Rio's spot as he and Edge struggled with each other on the big ladder, until Rey got face planted off the ladder by Edge. Del Rio's announcer, Roberto Rodriguez tried to revive Del Rio to go get the belt, and when Del Rio wouldn't get up, Rodriguez climbed the ladder himself. He was however stopped by Kane who chokeslammed him into the ring. Del Rio made it into the ring, only to meet the same fate. Rey snuck in the ring and knocked over the ladders, then knocked Kane into the ropes and hit him with the 619. He then knocked Kane out of the ring with a chair shot and set the big ladder again, and began to climb. Del Rio again caught up with Rey from behind, and ripped Rey down off of it. He then locked Rey into the cross arm breaker, and after quickly letting go, Del Rio looked at the belt, but went back to the arm breaker on Rey again. Finally Del Rio began to climb, and had his hand on the belt, only to be pushed over by Rey, going through a table on the outside. Alone in the ring, Rey set the ladder up again and began to climb. Kane tried to stop him, but after fighting him off, Rey hopped on the ropes and back flipped onto Kane, who didn't go anywhere, but instead, dropped Rey with a tombstone pile driver. Kane then began to climb the ladder as Edge hit him with a chair from behind four times in a row to knock Kane down. He then speared Kane off the ring apron through yet another table. Edge began to very slowly climb the ladder, and reached the top to pull down the belt and be crowned the new World Heavyweight Champion.

Winner: Edge (new World Champion)

Cody Rhodes came out and said he'd give Houston some grooming tips, but the people of Houston were hopeless. As he ran down the Houston natives, the Bella twins dressed in Santa outfits, as well as a giant Santa (Big Show) came out and gave gifts to the crowd. Show told him that the problem is that Cody is too uptight, and that maybe his dieting is making him so angry. Cody said that the biggest injustice is that Show is staring in movies and Cody isn't when he is the one that looks like a movie star. Show offered Cody a part in Knucklehead 2 if Cody let him do something about his wardrobe. Cody told Show not to touch him or his suit, and Show responded by beating Cody down and tearing his suit off of him.

In the back, Wade Barrett and Husky Harris made their way through the hall, as Husky was hit with a chair from behind a door, and Cena stepped out, mockingly waving to Barrett.

CM Punk came out to ringside and joined the broadcast team in place of Matt Striker.

Match 7: John Cena v. Wade Barrett (chairs match)

After a few lock ups, Cena threw Barrett to the outside and chased him out, kicking all the chairs out of Barrett's grasp. Barrett did finally get his hands on a chair and tried to corner Cena who kept dodging Barrett's attempted chair shots. Cena snuck back in the ring, but by the time Barrett got in, Cena had already snuck back outside and snagged another chair. The two circled the ring with chairs in hand and hit each other in the other's chair, with both dropping the chairs. Cena took advantage by beating Barrett into the corner and then setting up a chair in the middle of the ring, and bulldogging Barrett into it. Cena then wound the chair up to hit Barrett but Barrett pulled the ref in the way and snuck in a sneaky blow to turn the tide of the match. He was able to hit Cena with a pump-handle slam and several powerful jabs to the face, and then knock him out of the ring where he threw Cena into the ring steps. As Cena crawled down the aisle, Barrett followed hitting him with a chair shot to the back. Barrett went back to ringside and then returned down the aisle carrying the lower and bigger part of the ring steps, throwing it down in the aisle way. He picked up one of the many chairs stacked up around ringside and nailed Cena again, then set the ring steps vertically up in the middle of the aisle. Barrett headed to the entrance way, where he would attempt to power bomb Cena, only to have Cena reverse it and throw Barrett over his back onto the steel. Cena went to the back, and returned with an office type padded chair on wheels, sat Barrett on it, poured water all over him to wake him up, and rolled Barrett full speed into the steel steps in the aisle. As Cena approached, Barrett was able to surprise him with a chair shot to the stomach. Barrett took advantage by placing the chair around Cena's neck and shoving him into the ring post. Back in the ring Barrett continued to assault Cena with the chair, hitting and choking him with it. Cena fought back briefly but as he was going for a shoulder tackle on Barrett, Barrett moved out of the way, and put a chair in the way, having Cena run into it. Barrett tied Cena in the ropes and assaulted him with chair shots to the stomach, and then, after stepping out of the ring, shots to Cena's back as well. Somehow Cena fought out hitting Barrett with a Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Barrett countered the attempt at the Attitude Adjustment, and attempted to pin Cena, but failed to do so. A few moments later, Cena almost reversed the momentum again and nearly locked in the STF, but Barrett was able to shove him away and into the chair in the corner. Barrett attempted to drop a chair on Cena from the middle ropes with himself on top of it, but missed allowing Cena to get his hands on the chair and wail away on Barrett, and then headed to the top rope where he delivered a leg drop with a steel chair underneath it on Barrett. He then set the chair up in the ring and threw several more chairs into the ring, setting up six of them in threes facing each other. He then lifted Barrett and hit the Attitude Adjustment on Barrett through the set of chairs and got the winning pin fall. As Barrett was crawling away from ringside, a vengeful Cena stalked him down the aisle with a chair, and assaulted him with it. Barrett rolled off the ramp and tried to escape off to the side, only to be nailed by Cena again. Cena then pulled out a massive dolly, and muscled it over Barrett, dropping it on top of him. Cena then yanked down a hanging display of chairs sending a hanging set of chairs dropping down from the ceiling onto the dolly that Barrett was under.
