Buying a vacuum cleaner is easy when you know your needs and can narrow the field down to a few choices.
Stick Vacs/Hand Vacs
Lightweight and easy to store, stick vacs or stick vacuums that convert to hand vacs are best for quick pick-ups and hard floor surfaces. Stick vacs will make short work of dust, lint, hair and crumbs on hardwood, laminate, vinyl and tile -- they are especially good on tile, where grout lines can make sweeping with a broom and dustpan a pain. While stick vacs will do a respectable job on short pile area rugs and small areas of carpet, they are rarely up to the task of pulling out dirt that gets ground in to shag carpets or thick pile carpets or rugs.
Upright Vacs
