Dupray Hill Super Inox Steam Cleaner Review
I recently bought a steam cleaner for my home and I was truly impressed by its efficiency. Although it has minor flaws, it is the perfect tool for residential users who want to make their house shine.
Review of Dupray Hill Super Inox Steam Cleaner:
I have been looking to buy a steam cleaner for a while now but I remained hesitant until a few weeks ago, when I purchased a Dupray Hill Super Inox. The relatively high cost of most quality steam cleaners and the lack of reviews on the Internet forced me to think twice before acquiring one of those machines. That is also why I decided to do a review myself and give my comments on the machine and the accessories.
I was looking for a steam cleaner to do general house cleaning, which, as a mother, I do not have much time for. This technology has gained in popularity during the past years since it is chemical free (only water is needed) and it is supposed to save you an enormous amount of time and energy.
I chose the Dupray Super Inox because this model is equipped with a steam mop and a containing bag, which is not the case of other similar models. Although I had to pay an extra 300$ to get these features, I must say I was worth it. This model also has a continuous refill system (you can refill the boiler while the machine is still on), which turned out to be really convenient.
Unboxing the Steam Cleaner:
So I finally decided to give it a try and ordered mine on the Internet, although I did speak with the staff at Dupray to get some information beforehand. I was surprise by how fast it arrived, especially considering that I live in New Jersey. FedEx was in charge of the delivery and within only two days the package appeared at my front door. The steam cleaner was really well packed and nothing was broken during transportation, although there was an awful amount of Styrofoam peanuts that ended up all over my living room (but I guess that is necessary).
The steam cleaner obviously comes with an owner's manual to help you get started. I was a bit disappointed by the poor translation but I that is the price to pay to have an authentic Italian machine. The guide also comes with a key and O-rings for eventual replacements, although I was told that this generally never happens.
The Accessories:
The machine also comes with a transportation bag (which contains all the accessories) and an extra shoulder strap. The bag seems to be pretty strong, especially compared to the ones I saw in specialized stores. This one is definitely heavy duty!
The included accessories also appear to be strongly built. The machine comes with a bunch of them so I do not have to buy additional ones for other particular cleaning tasks. Here is a list of the included accessories:
Dupray also sent me an extra packet of microfiber cloth, which I really appreciated. The extra grey ones seem to be of a better quality, as they are plusher and thicker than the white one included with the machine. The people at Dupray told me that the cloth has to be put on the brushes in order to isolate the steam, it also wipes up the residues and grime.
The steam cleaner also comes with a complete set of brushes, perfect for a heavy residential use and to operate a wide range cleaning tasks. The set includes smaller nylon, brass, and stainless steel brushes. You also have some bigger ones (6 centimeters) for different cleaning tasks: one steam plunger in rubber for cleaning drains, a circular one for really dirty surfaces (the steel wool actually goes on this one), a triangular one for corners, and a scraper to remove vinyl adhesive or gum.
Getting Started:
After I was done unpacking the machine, it was time to test its efficiency. The Dupray Hill Super Inox requires virtually no assemblage: you only have to connect the brush you want to use to the hose or the extension, which can be done pretty quickly as you can see here:
After the machine reached its maximum temperature, I tried on various surfaces to evaluate its efficiency and versatility. I was really impressed by the amount of steam produced (an interesting feature is that the steam does not heat up until you put the brush and the cloth on to isolate it) starting with the rectangular floor brush. The machine produced a generous amount of steam and, I must say, delivered great results on the floor: it literally blasted away stains and grime. No more scrubbing and cleaning grouts for hours; the surface only needs to be in contact with the steam for a couple of seconds to be disinfected.
I noted similar results when I used the steam cleaner on windows and mirrors. For this kind of task you can easily use the hose without any tools and pass over the surface. Use one of the included cloths to wipe off the residual left and you get clean windows and mirrors with no streaks. I was told that steam cleaners deliver such good results because there is no chemical used in the process and therefore no residuals.
Overall Review:
Pros:
Dupray Hill Super Inox steam cleaner feels durable and strong without being burdensome; it is clearly a high quality machine and is perfect for a heavy residential user like myself. I was impressed by the power of steam and how much I could do using just tap water. I can predict my cleaning routine will become much more easier with this tool, especially when it comes to tougher jobs like grout cleaning or gum removing.
Cons:
I did notice some minor flaws with this product however. For example, I would have appreciated an owner's manual with better translation and more clarity. Although the machine does not take much space, it is relatively heavy to carry (about 25 pounds), which might be a problem for some people.
Final Verdict:
The Dupray Hill Super Inox is definitely a great all around tool to purchase for your home if you are willing to pay a little extra money. The investment is definitely worth it as it will cut your cleaning time in half and save you a tremendous amount of energy on heavy-duty cleaning tasks, which justifies its price. The machine fulfilled all of my expectations and I would absolutely recommend it.
