How to Remove Carpet Stains
Using a few simple tools, a bit of elbow grease and determination you can any stain from carpets.
For fresh stains
The secret in how to clean carpet stains is to act quickly. Remove the bulk of what caused the stain. If this is solid pick it up, if liquid lay a thickly folded towel on top and press against it or stand on it so that it pulls up as much liquid as possible.
See what you are left with. If it is mostly dry and barely discolored go with the Resolve. I use the Pet Stain formula because it helps to neutralize odors and organic aspect of stains. Spray the resolve heavily on the stain on the carpet and scrub vigorously with the brush. Allow it to dry. Take a dry scrub brush to it to work out the stiffness and then vacuum. There should be no evidence of the stain.
If this method didn't work or it the stain left is still very wet, it is OxiClean's time to shine. Follow set in stain solution.
For set in stains
Some times stains mysteriously appear. Maybe a household member didn't alert you to the spill. Or maybe it just showed up one day, from previous ineffective cleaning. Either way it can still be fixed. Mix a solution of OxiClean according to package directions. Use the original powder formula that you mix with water. Pour the solution on the the stain and let it set for half an hour. Scrub it with a brush to work it in to the fibers. Take a dry folded towel and press it into the liquid absorbing as much as possible. Keep applying fresh water and soaking it up with dry towels until the stain is up. The trick is to get as much pressure on the towel as possible stand on it jump up and down if you have to. Allow the spot to dry, brush it with a dry scrub brush and then vacuum.
For serious stains a second treatment might be necessary.
For stains with odor
If you have young pets or young children you are aware that potty training accidents can occur. My mother is a freak about odor. Her solution was to use a mix of one part white vinegar to 3 parts warm water and work it into the puddle with a scrub brush and then use the towel method to pull it up. This works well to eliminate the odor. For pet stains use the OxiClean or the Resolve method after the vinegar as it seems to help neutralize the odor that draws pets back. This also works well for cleaning up vomit. In that case you have to remove most of the mess before starting or you just work it in further.
