Looking for a floor is a confusing, expensive and time consuming process. All you hope for is good service and a good result.
About four months ago, I ordered a vinyl floor for my kitchen and bathroom to be installed in one full sheet. There are several complaints that I would like to point out for any potential future customers. First, the salesman forgot to call me when the floor came in, so I had to call three weeks after the order was placed. The salesman even forgot to schedule a measuring appointment. He also said he needed a down payment on my credit card at the beginning, but he charged two more amounts on two additional occasions without notifying me first.
The three installers left cigarette butts outside in the backyard during their breaks which was not necessary. The installers requested an extra $20 off the books to use a half cup of leveling compound in the bathroom doorway. They said this was necessary or they would not be able to install the floor in one piece. It would have to be two separate pieces with a metal strip installed between the two rooms. This was after my salesman said the floor would be installed in one piece.
After the installation was completed, their were ripples near the doorway. The installer asked me to sign the order form which said the installation was acceptable. I told him that there were bumps still on the floor. He said give it a few weeks and the bumps will settle.
After a few weeks the bumps were still there so I called and requested someone to fix the problem. The installer that arrived was stumped on how to fix the problem and actually said, "who did this installation?", "I can't believe they left the job looking that way". The installer said it would be a very tough job to fix the bumps because the floor would have to be ripped up and stretched. That involved a risk of damaging the new floor and the pattern may not line up like it was suppose to. The installer was not motivated to fix the bumps so he suggested to set a few heavy books on them for a few days.
Finally, after setting up a second appointment to have the problem repaired, the next installer was a no show on the day that he agreed to fix the floor. Currently, I'm still waiting for this problem to get taken care of and I strongly suggest caution when dealing with Custom Carpet Center floor dealer in Buffalo, New York.
